Measuring Dew Point Temperature in High-Pressure and Breathing Air Supply Systems

The air compression ratio in high pressure systems ranges from 20 to 200 bar. High-pressure systems are used, for example, to fill diving equipment (cylinder filling stations) and respiratory protection devices, where highly compressed clean air is used for breathing.

Increasing the pressure leads to higher dew point temperature values under pressure in such systems. It also increases the likelihood of condensation formation in the systems.

Controlling the dew point temperature under pressure is necessary when filling cylinders with compressed breathing air. Compressed air in diving equipment cools rapidly during pressure reduction when using air from the cylinder, which can lead to moisture or ice formation and block the valve opening.

The dew point sensor and measuring chamber must withstand high pressures up to 200 bar and above. For this purpose, CS Instruments has specially developed a measuring chamber for high pressures and a dew point sensor that can be used in applications with pressures up to 350 bar.
