
The Role of Temperature
Temperature plays an important role in many product manufacturing processes. In such cases, a tempering machine is used. This is a permanently installed device that, as an integral component of the production facility, is responsible for hardening the mold or selected tool during the manufacturing process.
The constant temperature of the tool or mold is a key factor in the quality of the finished product. Water or oil is most often used as the heat transfer medium, but depending on the application, other liquids may also be used. Tempering machines often have both heating and cooling functions.
The medium is brought to a certain temperature and supplied to the process through a piping system. There, the medium transfers heat or cold energy. Then the medium returns to the tempering machine in a closed loop to replenish the used (and therefore lost) energy.
The purpose of the hardening machine is to provide the production process with the desired temperature and maintain it constantly. Temperature sensors are used to control the set temperature.
Application Presentation
Excess pressure that arises in the tempering machine tank as a result of heating the medium is controlled by pressure sensors. A constant pressure of 16 bar is set for this. For this task, KELLER was able to supply PR-21Y piezoresistive pressure sensors to a client specializing in the development and production of hardening machines using water and oil for tempering. The Y-line transducers are especially suitable for this use because they have a very low temperature error range.
