A refrigerated air dryer is a classic compressed air dryer. In a refrigerated dryer, the dew point temperature under pressure is usually within the range of 2-5 °C. This provides protection for the pipeline against corrosion and also prevents damage to pneumatic equipment.
Most refrigerated dryers available on the market measure and control only the refrigerant temperature, but not the actual moisture content in the compressed air.
Meanwhile, measuring and controlling only the refrigerant temperature is insufficient for the following reasons:
- Increased humidity of the incoming air (for example, during warm humid summer periods) leads to overloads of the refrigerated dryer. Although the temperature in the refrigeration unit remains constant, not all moisture in the air can condense, resulting in a dew point temperature after the refrigerated dryer that is higher than the measured refrigerant temperature.
- Increased compressed air consumption leads to dryer overloads. Due to the high air flow rate passing through the dryer, the volumetric air flow also increases, and the dryer does not have enough time to sufficiently cool the compressed air to the set condensation temperature of 3°C. As a result, the size of the refrigerated dryer is insufficient for maximum load conditions, and the compressed air after the dryer has an elevated dew point temperature and thus a higher amount of residual moisture compared to the dryer temperature readings.
- Even with proper operation and well-designed refrigerated dryers, faults can occur in the condensate drain device, which will lead to condensate retention in the system and, consequently, to moisture-saturated air.
Dew Point Temperature Measurement Device
We suggest considering our DS400 system as a simple and reliable compressed air dew point temperature control system.
We recommend the following products:
Dew Point Temperature Measurement Kit for Refrigerated Dryers DS 400 with the digital meter DS 400 and dew point sensor FA 510 with a measurement range from -20 to 50°C dew point.

- FA 510/515 – Dew point sensor for refrigerated dryers. Measures dew point temperature in the range from -20 to 50°C dew point. New: with Modbus-RTU interface.
