Submersible Electromagnetic Flowmeter IZMERKON EM 450
Measuring liquid flow in large-diameter pipelines is always associated with high equipment costs and installation complexity. In such situations, the optimal solution is a submersible flowmeter, which is installed directly into the flow through a small hole. The IZMERKON EM 450 model is a submersible electromagnetic flowmeter designed to operate in mains from DN100 to DN3000.
This device uses the electromagnetic induction method to determine the velocity of the medium, making it an ideal tool for water supply, sewage, and irrigation systems. Unlike insertion models, the submersible type device allows significant savings on the sensor cost itself and simplifies maintenance without stopping the production process.

Features of the EM 450 Submersible Model
The main advantage that distinguishes this electromagnetic flowmeter is the ability to install it under pressure using a ball valve (in a special design). This is critically important for utilities and large factories where it is impossible to completely drain water from the system to install the measuring unit.
Key design features:
- Minimal installation costs. Installation only requires preparing a branch of the required diameter, which is much cheaper than purchasing and installing a full-bore coil of huge weight.
- No pressure loss. The submersible sensor occupies a negligible part of the pipe cross-section, creating no hydraulic resistance.
- Resistance to aggressive environments. Thanks to a wide selection of materials (titanium, tantalum, Hastelloy), the device can operate in the harshest chemical conditions.
- Universal power supply. Support for AC and DC networks makes device integration maximally flexible.
- Remote design. The electronic unit can be placed up to 100 meters away, which is convenient for deeply buried pipes.

General Information on Electromagnetic Measurement Technology
The operation of the electromagnetic flowmeter is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. Inside the sensor head are coils that create a magnetic field. When an electrically conductive liquid moves through this field, an EMF proportional to the flow velocity arises.
Electromagnetic submersible flowmeters of the EM 450 series record the local velocity at a specific point of the cross-section, after which the electronic unit recalculates this value into the total volumetric flow based on the specified pipe diameter. This method ensures high reliability since the device has no moving mechanical parts subject to wear or jamming.
For correct operation, it is important that the conductivity of the measured medium is above 5 µS/cm. This allows the device to be used for accounting water (including wastewater and seawater), acids, alkalis, and various industrial solutions.
Applications of the Submersible Flowmeter in Industry
The scope of the EM 450 model covers facilities with large-scale engineering networks:
- Water utilities and housing and communal services. Water accounting in main pipelines supplying resources to entire neighborhoods.
- Energy (CHP plants, GRES). Control of circulating water in turbine cooling systems.
- Irrigation systems. Accounting for water intake from natural reservoirs for field reclamation.
- Treatment facilities. Monitoring the movement of sludge and purified water in pressure collectors.
Thanks to support for Modbus-RTU and HART protocols, electromagnetic submersible flowmeters become part of modern digital monitoring and dispatching systems.
Flowmeter Properties and Technical Specifications
The IZMERKON EM 450 model provides stable readings even under increased vibration and electromagnetic interference conditions.
System Features:
- Intelligent self-diagnosis. The device constantly monitors the condition of the electrodes and the presence of an empty pipe, signaling errors.
- High protection class. The converter is standardly protected to IP65 class, and the sensor can be made to IP68 rating (for operation under debris or underwater).
- Multiple interfaces. The presence of analog and frequency outputs allows connecting the device to any secondary instruments.
- Simple calibration. The menu on the display allows quick input of pipe parameters and setting measurement units (m³/h, l/s, etc.).
